Running head PROPOSAL PITCH FOR TEXTING amp DRIVING Proposal Pitch for Texting and Driving English 135 Professor Wright DeVry University PROPOSAL PITCH FOR TEXTING amp DRIVING 2 Proposal for Texting and Driving I Introduction A Topic 1 Research question How effective are devices that disable incar cellphone messaging in preventing deaths and accidents that are caused by texting and driving 2 Working thesis Although devices that disable incar cellphone messaging can help curb texting and driving incidents they are still not as effective in preventing accidents and deaths from texting and driving compared to the stricter implementation of rules and regulations that ban texting and driving 3 Angle Technology is imperfect in many ways and has many restrictions It is also still controlled by humans Which means that an oversight on the part of the user can render the devices that prevent incar cellphone messaging useless The use of these devices are also not mandated by law Which means that their use for preventing text messaging While driving may not be employed by everyone B Context 1 Texting and driving is one of the major causes of accidents and deaths in the United States Specifically 16 million or 28 of the car accidents in the country can be attributed to texting and driving PascualFerra amp Beatty 2012 In this regard it is important to explore more effective ways of preventing such incidents 2 I would be effective at addressing this issue as many of the people Who text and drive are those Within my age group Therefore I can relate to their PROPOSAL PITCH FOR TEXTING amp DRIVING 3 experiences which may make them more comfortable and open to considering my points of view C Audience 1 My primary audience would consist of people within my age group as they are the ones who are most likely to text and drive and are the ones most likely to use devices that restrict cellphone use while driving Mays 2014 The primary audience would also include parents who have children in their teens 2 My secondary audience would consist of my professor parents and my fellow students 3 Most of my audience particularly the adults may agree with my proposition considering that they are more aware of the goingson in our society However some of the teen drivers who would read my paper may be skeptical of my perspective since they are very technologically inclined and rely on technology for many of their activities 11 Evidence A Research Gathered I was able to obtain evidence of the severity of texting and driving incidents in the United States which justifies the need for exploring more effective measures for preventing such incidents I have also gathered evidence that there are aws with using devices or apps that prevent cellphone use while driving and that their use is not mandated by law Furthermore I have gathered evidence about the effectiveness of implementing laws that regulate texting and driving B Research to be Gathered I need to gather and present more information on the aws and restrictions PROPOSAL PITCH FOR TEXTING amp DRIVING in the use solely of technology for preventing texting and driving incidents I also need to gather more evidence to show that the implementation of laws and regulations is more effective at curbing texting and driving incidents compared to the use of technology To present the opposing viewpoint I will research about the ways by which mobile devices and apps can be used to help prevent texting and driving III Conclusion I propose that along with the development and enhancement of devices and apps that prevents cellphone use while driving more attention be focused on implementing stricter and more effective laws that would regulate texting and driving Once the technology is fully developed I also propose that the use of the devices or apps that prevent texting and driving be mandated IV References Mays K 2014 January 4 New device aims to stop teens texting and driving Retrieved from httpwwwbostoncomcars20140104newdeviceaimsstopteenstextingand drivingteoerUIDVK74MFTkszpOstoryhtml PascualFerra P Liu Y amp Beatty M J 2012 A metaanalytic comparison of the effects of text messaging to substanceinduced impairment on driving performance Communication Research Reports 293 227 238 doi10l080088240962012696079
