Ethical issues include N L Forced use of a commission base payment plan for hourly employees Violation of auto repair act which is designed to protect consumers from fraud 03 P 6 7 and unacceptable repair Misleading customers and charging them for unnecessary repairs The company openly lied to the public and denied any wrongdoings The company claimed to have illuminated the commission based program but a letter from an employee indicated that Sears continued the practice Employee s active participation in skipping procedures to make more money Threatening to fire or reprimand employees if quota were not meet The main factor that contributed to Sears s unethical behavior was the failing business Sears sought ways to increase earnings in hopes of increasing market share Employees actively participated in the scandal to make money Employee pay was reduced which forced employees to make as many sales as possible The added stress of possible termination influenced many of the employees behavior I believe management promoted the unethical practices to a point where the behavior appeared standard Management failed to consider the ramifications of unethical practices The company solely focused on profit to recoup losses Customer satisfaction and public approval were ignored as a result of selfish practices
