Running head GENDER ETHICS Gender Ethics PH1208 Ethics and Moral Reasoning J amere Shepherd April 28 2014 Instructor Shawn Lorenzen GENDER ETHICS A DEONTOLOGICAL APPROACH IN THEORY Gender Ethics A Deontological Approach in Theory There are two real morals theories that endeavor to indicate and defend good moral rules and standards utilitarianism and deontological ethics Anyhow fundamentally an utilitarian methodology to ethical quality suggests that no ethical demonstration such as theft or rule such as keeping promises is innately precise or erroneous Deontological ethics is in keeping with scripture common good law and instincts from an ability to think Deontological morals have no less than three vital characteristics Initially duty should be done for duty s sake people ought to be dealt with as objects of inherent good esteem that seems to be as closures in themselves and never as a simple intends to some ip side and an ethical principle must be pertinent for everybody who is in the same good circumstance When it comes to the issue of gender ethics it seems to fall better under the category of deontological theory Deontological focuses on the idealized notion of what a better world ought to be management guru 2009 No man or woman should be discriminated upon because of their gender Women are men are both made by God and despite one s physical mental or emotional strengths they are the same Deontological definitely sheds light on this issue simply because being equal betters the world as a whole Taking a look at gender ethics from the deontological mental state provides certain strengths This approach focuses on action as oppose to mental states Deontological ethics is about following universal norms that prescribe what people ought to do how they should behave and what is right or wrong Mosser 2013 This proverb may be focused around rights a GENDER ETHICS A DEONTOLOGICAL APPROACH IN THEORY faith in decency an innate valuation or something else as long as there are universalizable good obligations For instance the right of female employees to equivalent wages for equivalent work intimates that organizations have an obligation not to separate on the groundwork of sex a conviction that individuals merit some base living standard may prompt the detailing and authorization of a base wage and admiration for the natural quality of the environment may prompt an ethical obligation of reusing An imperative meaning of deontological morals stressed by Kant himself is that individuals are acknowledged to be equivalent and accordingly ought to never be transformed into methods for other individuals39 closures individuals ought to dependably be viewed as finishes in themselves Mosser 2013 This suggests shared appreciation and the assurance of human pride which thus eXpect good breaking points to human conduct or a main concern of what is satisfactory regardless of the investment outcomes of such good standards There are some great advantages when taking the deontological approach to gender ethics Taking the ethical approach accounts for the intuition that even if an act is not morally demanded it may still be praiseworthy There are many different ethnic backgrounds that reside in the United States and may not agree to the morals and laws when it comes to men and women and in some cases it is not demanded of them simply because it goes against their culture However many still respect the moral acts of the country and acknowledge and adhere to the country s culture as much as possible Another advantage of viewing gender ethics from this perspective is that treating everyone equal is just right despite how good or bad it may seem SeX differences in religion have put boundaries on the roles of men and women Certain religious beliefs and practices place limitations and roles of men and women in the government church GENDER ETHICS A DEONTOLOGICAL APPROACH IN THEORY and even educational wise There are some religions that forbid women to engage and hold leadership roles Looking at ethics from this perspective grants men and women the same opportunities To every pro there are some cons and looking at gender ethics from this perspective can cause some confusion Individuals that have different religious backgrounds stand firm on being biased in regards to gender There are some religious backgrounds that stand firm on women staying in the homes and caring for their children and husband as well as completing all the household chores Men are said to be the bread winners and makes all the decisions and runs their home Going against this belief can cause con icts in the home for women wanting to be treated equally and allowed options of gaining certain careers and even possibly becoming the bread winner and leading their home Gender equality is an issue that seems to be an ongoing debate in this society No man or woman should be discriminated upon because of their gender There have many debates and efforts to fight inequality to make certain men and women all have the opportunity of enjoying identical rights resources opportunities as well as protections Women are men are different but yet afforded the same chances in life Women are men are both made by God and despite one s physical mental or emotional strengths they are the same When focusing on gender ethics the deontological theory will pose advantages and disadvantages but utilizing this perspective seems to render more positive results GENDER ETHICS A DEONTOLOGICAL APPROACH IN THEORY References Management Guru 2009
