Bus370 wk 4 dis 2 Teams CLOs 1235 Re ect on a team you currently belong to and see if you can identify Tuckman s stages of team development Forming Storming Norming Performing What stage are you currently in Did you find difficulties with any of the stages How did you negotiate the storming phase Respond to two classmates posts In my job I have seen many small groups come together work together and break up and move on to other groups I work for an electric utility and we assemble crews or groups of 46 individuals to do different jobs These crews change personnel from time to time and range from one person to several people at once We do try to avoid a mass turnover in any one crew so the crew will maintain a certain level of continuity Because our work is inherently dangerous working on high voltage it is critical for there to be a high level of trust competency and accountability on each crew Personalities egos leadership styles and initiative all have an effect on how long and how successful these crews will be These traits also affect how long it will take for any crew to move through these four stages Forming Storming Norming and Performing As far as my most recent experience with the Tuckman theory I am part of a recently formed group three managers Even though we are responsible for different areas of operations we are required to move employees through each department and are all accountable for doing the same job just different aspects of the job and are expected to share resources on a day to day basis The three of us were put in our positions at the same time about 14 months ago Even though we all had very different personalities and had experienced con icts at some point over the previous 30 years we were very excited about the new jobs and were gungho and committed to work together All of us felt very equal and were very supportive of each other in the forming stage Twelve months later we are more comfortable in our jobs and can see more independence coming from each of us This sense of independence has made us a little less accepting of each other s view points and ideas As one of my colleagues stated the red is gone off my lollypop It appears that we are in the beginning of the storming stage I am curious about long this will last and hope that it does not have a negative effect to our subordinates I know it will be up to us to make sure this will not happen It seems to me that competition among group members could have a significant impact on the storming stage of group development Bierema Laura 2014 Organization Development An Action Research Approach Bridgepoint Education Inc
