improvement of quality keeping exibility and struggling to keep up with competition in the workplace with a constant stream of innovative services and new obligations is the only guarantee of the business achieving success in the business This paper will therefore address such factors in order to evaluate how effective Alexander Youth Network is as a company Behaviors that occur as a result of external environmental factors are analyzed in organizational behavior For the effectiveness of Alexander Youth Network to be determined the employees behavior and other factors that come into play must be analyzed as this in uence the productivity of the company In the office employees may sometimes be impetus to change or improve work ethics which can become a stumbling block Organizational Behavior is the study and presentation of awareness of how an individuals groups act in a business The reason of organizational behavior is to increase the knowledge of the issues that in uence individual and group dynamics in a structural setting so that individuals as well as the organizations can develop a more wellorganized and operational In an effort to attain success it is imperative that managers today understand the dynamics of organizational behavior and how this theory relates to the organization in order to succeed A good manager understands that organizational behavior investigates the in uences of results in the culture of the company and effective managers must capitalize on this However organizational behavior investigates the in uence of individuals groups and structures on behavior in an organization Organizational Behavior 3 Organizational Trends According to Robbins and Judges this knowledge is then used to improve an organization s effectiveness Robbins amp Judge p 10 The elements to be taken note of are organizational effectiveness absenteeism organizational citizenship behavior job satisfaction ethical behavior turnover and the driving forces of task performance Schermerhorn Hunt amp Osborn 2008 The business also embraces the analysis of organizational in uences that can in uence group behavior and or individuals Considerable investigation of organizational behavior is eventually intended at providing human resource management specialists with the material and tools that are essential to handpick train and maintain employees in a manner continuous revision Schermerhorn Hunt amp Osborn 2008 One particular trend in organizational behavior is a tremendous growth in the multiplicity of culture in any particular corporation Diversity in the work setting is distinct as differences based on being ablebodied age ethnicity race gender race and ethnicity Schermerhorn Hunt amp Osborn 2008 pg 10 Schermerhorn goes on to explain success in the work setting today that involves an establishment of skills for working with an extensive blend of individuals from a diverse ethnical and racial backgrounds as well as diverse genders and ages Collins 2008 Organizational behavior can be used to assist businesses as well as create positivity and effective business cultures resulting in a more productive and profitable organization as a whole In order to do this management must focus on each level the organization as whole organization groups and individuals There are several factors within an organization that these factors can affect its progress besides the products presented by the company These additional factors are the focus of organizational behavior the action and attitudes of groups and individuals toward one another and the organization as a whole and its effect on the organization s functioning and performance The goal behind studying organizational behavior is to get better knowledge of those issues that impact dynamics so that individuals groups and the organizations they belong to can become more efficient and effective As a business owner and management it is essential to consider these factors and have a solid understanding that workers not only in uence the company environment but workers are also in uence by the work environment Organizational Behavior 5 Organizational Behavior in the Workplace An organization s base is built on the philosophy values visions and goals of the management These factors are what drives the company and helps to set the culture The culture encompasses both formal and informal structure also social environment of the company which in turn determines the type of leadership communication and group behavior it has In other words the culture of a company is the perception of the quality of the work atmosphere and environment by employees and management Alexander Youth Network is among the world leading foster care companies It mainly produces different goals for children therapy sessions and provides medication and money towards the children future It operates in 100 counties it is centered in Charlotte North Carolina and participates all over North Carolina At Alexander Youth Network for example the team consist of 67 employees has daily standup meetings Everyone working on the project gathers standing up to make sure they have the best interest of the child These meeting consist of a therapist case manager social worker the children and the foster parent These standup meetings are an artifact of Alexander Youth Network desire to work hard for the children and get things done in a timely manner Artifacts are easier to change than the less visible aspects of organizational culture The culture of an organization is evident through its artifacts such as its values and norms company logos and other primary underlying assumptions This includes all formal and informal processes and nature of internal interactions Alexander Youth Network mutual respect prevails and employees are encouraged and supported to meet the company s goals while Organizational Behavior 6 developing their skills Employees are trusted with decisionmaking in the absence of their superiors Employees are the main contributing factors to the success of Alexander Youth Network organization therefore it is in the best interest of the organizations to adapt organizational practices that will make its workers happy and streamlining their process of interaction Secondly it employs organizational behavior practices by means of its best possessions and strategies in order to get to the top level Most organizations do this because in the past organizational behavior practices were not given much importance but after the realization that it helps in achieving their goals most of them have adapted these practices In addition Alexander Youth Network employs organizational behavior practices by ensuring that it offers the finest corporate social responsibilities to the societies around them This helps in improving the relationship between the organization and the people around it and in turn peaceful coexistence is encouraged This is mostly done by providing social amenities to the communities such as improvement of structure creation of employment for the people within the community and building of schools and churches Alexander Youth Network have artifacts are recognizable in most households On an internal level yearly there are ceremonies that the company conducts to reinforce the feeling of family Yearly the company holds Christmas in the Atrium where Santa comes for all of the employees and their families to visit Alexander Youth Network Strategy According to Alexander Youth Network the company mission statement values standards integrity and ethics form part of its culture The mission statement of AYN reads To Organizational Behavior 7 provide innovative distinctive products and services that save and improve lives and satisfy customer need to be recognized as a great place to work and to provide investors with a superior rate of return AYN Co Inc p21 The mission statement it is evident that AYN has embraced employee contribution to the company The compliance office at AYN serves to ensure that the company is in compliance with the global standards Alexander Youth Network s organizational culture comes out as salad bowl since it has embraced diversity Employees are of different ages races gender ethnicity physical ability and sexual orientation Schermerhorn et al This diversity is used in a positive way to boost productivity Different strategies have been put in place to ensure this is achieved Employee resource groups and constituency groups have been formed The constituency groups are made up of members from different areas of the globe with different cultures professions and religions This work together for the success of the company Different modes of communication are embraced at AYN Both verbal and written communication forms are employed in disseminating messages in the company Depending on the urgency of information different communication modes are employed These include meetings use of notice boards circulars and brochures emails company websites and brainstorming sessions The communication is always open and it helps retain company culture In order to ensure effective management of a company managers must have strong leadership skills communication skills people skills and exhibit strong management In AYN the nature of leadership is hierarchical as authority and power ows from the topmost positions Organizational Behavior 8 downwards However democratic leadership is practiced as employees are given opportunities to participate in company leadership This includes employees inclusion in decisionmaking process However employees in disputes are to report their complaints to their supervisors or the Human Resources representative Employees that are afraid of supervisor the HR representative are allowed to forward their issues to the office of ethics A code of conduct of this company applies to all employees as well as the directors who all hold responsibilities It encompasses all the ethical procedures to be followed in decisionmaking This makes employees feel they also count as they can make decisions too Summary As mention previously organizational behavior is the study and presentation of awareness of how an individuals groups act in a business Alexander Youth Network company has embraced transparency in its leadership as it has an effective corporate structure of governance Its Chief Executive Officer is appointed by a board that also determines their remuneration The board is headed by a chairman and all employees can access the audit committee The CEO of Alexander tries hard to endorse the corporation value of providing value products and great service in response to the financial problems The CEO also set standards of working hard as a family The HR department social workers case managers and the therapeutic parents all have the same goal to help children in need as well as providing financial services that benefit everyone especially the child Alexander Youth Network includes its values within the contract integrity value service and relationships financial strength and joint trust this business takes pride in providing a Organizational Behavior 9 security and safety for the child and providing in services to honor the parents that open up their home time and life to help a child in need The most recent value set by the company is to be remarkable Employees not only need to strive to give remarkable service to the children parents and families but also be remarkable in the interactions with future employees Whistle blowers protection policies are also part of this company This way employees have confidence in the authority of the company This kind of governance has got the employees at heart and deems them an asset Sources of motivation vary in individuals nonetheless companies should seek to motivate their employees in order to increase productivity In AYN motivation of employees has been entrenched in the company culture Goals have been set for employees and team work on various projects is highly encouraged Continuous training for employees is given for improvement of skills There are incentives rewards and promotions for those who show progressive performance Pay rises is also used for motivating employees The privacy of employees is also safeguarded through the compliance officer and this is a respectful act to them Employees are an asset to AYN which is why they are treated special AYN Co Inc Employees in this company are faced with decisionmaking responsibilities They therefore have to improve their decision making skills by understanding their emotional quotient The company encourages them to do this personally while it shows some efforts through seminars and sessions with guest speakers on the same Employee s awareness of their emotions in uences a company s productivity They have to assess their interpersonal and intrapersonal emotions such as social skills selfawareness Organizational Behavior 10 motivation empathy and selfregulation Emotional training workshops are held for employees as well as guest speakers who train employees on the same Alexander Youth Network has to some extent embraced components of virtual organization even though it is not a virtual organization For instance in 2009 an alternative to physical meetings was sought Virtual meeting software was then realized and has been in use since then Virtual conferences symposiums are now held thanks to this software This has greatly saved on time and travel costs It however is still experimenting with this software to determine its viability for wider corporate meetings AYN Co Inc p31 In conclusion companies should make a habit of analyzing their organizational behavior as this is the key to evaluating their effectiveness The various challenges that the organization faces due to these practices and methods or improvement recommendations that could be adapted to ensure that these challenges are properly absorbed within the organization This will show how weak or strong their performance is and what needs to be
