THIS TUTORIAL IS TO BE USED AS A GUIDE AS TO WHAT YOUR INSTRUCTOR IS LOOKING FOR IN YOUR SUBMISSION. THIS IS ORIGINAL WORK, WHICH HAS BEEN SUBMITTED TO AXIA AT LEAST ONCE. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT MY TUTORIALS ARE CREATED BASED SPECIFICALLY ON MY INSTRUCTORS REQUIREMENTS AND GRADING RUBRIC. THEREFORE, YOUR INSTRUCTOR MAY ASK FOR ADDITIONAL OR LESS REQUIREMENTS THAN THAT OF THIS TUTORIAL. EACH INSTRUCTOR IS DIFFERENT, SO PLEASE BE SURE TO ADD OR REMOVE THE REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO RECEIVE FULL POINTS. I HAVE JUST FINISHED WITH MY DEGREE AND CURRENTLY HOLD A 4.0 GPA! I AM NOW BEGINNING MY BS; THEREFORE, I WILL HAVE MANY MORE CLASSES TO COME! NOTE! EVERY TUTORIAL THAT HAS A GRADE ATTACHED OR POSTED AT THE TOP OF THE DOCUMENT HAS BEEN GRADED BY THE INSTRUCTOR! THE TUTORIALS THAT HAVE NO GRADE ATTACHED ARE THE NEW ONES THAT I HAVE WRITTEN, WHICH I HAVE NEVER SUBMITTED TO AXIA. HOWEVER, PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT ALTHOUGH I HAVE NOT SUBMITTED THEM TO AXIA, ANOTHER STUDENT MAY HAVE PURCHASED IT AND SUBMITTED IT TO AXIA. New Employee Training 2 New Employee Training 3 New Employee Training for Patient Care Technician xxxxxxxxx Axia University HRM 240 Human Resource Management xxxxxxx February 10, 2008 New Employee Training 4 New Employee Training for Patient Care Technician In order for a training program to be effective, an organization must have an overall objective and focus on needs rather than wants. In order for organizational success there must be a training system in place for all new and existing employees. This paper will focus on needs assessment, delivery and evaluation of a new employee training program for patient care technician. These are essential in the success of any organization. With the use of these tools the organization can assure increased employee productivity by identifying the problem, delivering the proper training and evaluating for maximum performance. Needs Assessment, Delivery “Training needs assessment is a tool utilized to identify what educational courses or activities should be provided to employees to improve their work productivity” (Ruggieri, 2008, Para 1). In business training, there must be a line of communication of how tasks should be accomplished. The first step in effective training is analyzing the employee to find out what his or her skills are. The following step is to decide what type of training has to be given to each employee. When hiring a patient care technician there are several factors that need to be covered. In order to provide the best possible healthcare and keep patients happy every employee must have customer service skills. Because customer service depends on a large number of variables every employee needs training. In dialysis there are several issues that might indicate a need for training, such as increased patient complaints or visible decrease in employee productivity. The primary reason for employee training is to increase his or her knowledge, skills and abilities for maximum performance (Bohlander & Snell, S. A., 2007). Although every organization has specific issues that require training, these must be prioritized. Next, we will go into detail on prioritizing three specific issues. New Employee Training 5 a. A supervisor requests training on the specialized technology required by five of his employees. b. The customer service manager reports a sudden increase in calls about poor handling of repeat complaint calls. c. The CEO requests team efficiency training to address the declining numbers of employees attending quarterly pep rallies. Our goal as dialysis clinic is to have happy patients and have each employee provide maximum healthcare. When prioritizing the three issues stated above we must first think about the patient and how we can make them happy. Our first priority is going to be to provide five employees with the required specialized technology training. We make this our first priority because our employees must have full understanding of how the technology works. If they do not understand the technology then they cannot provide the proper help that our patients need, which in turn can cause an increase in complaints. We will then develop and deliver the training program which will be a combination of onthejob training and apprentice training. Due to the nature and complexity of the technology being used and the need of extensive training; this program will be instructor led. The need to use an instructor for this program is crucial because the employees need to learn step by step procedures on the technology. We must have an instructor available at all times during the training process to answer any questions the employees may have. In the dialysis it may be difficult to train on the floor due to the increased amount of patients, which can cause employee distraction and tension. Therefore, we will create a classroom setting within the building where the employees can feel at ease. This training program will also require a certification exam in order to make sure that at the end of the program each employee is fully prepared to provide maximum patient care through the use of this new system. New Employee Training 6 Our next priority is going to be to provide team efficiency training. This is our second priority because now that we have covered the proper technology training we will be able to provide the proper service to our patients. Issues that increase the problem of poor handling of complaints can be lack of technology awareness; now that we have trained our five employees we will see a decrease in complaints and an increase in employee motivation. Employees will now feel more confident about their job and provide better customer service. Although we have trained our employees in the technology we must now train our remaining employees in proper customer care. For this training we will use a self paced elearning program. Elearning will save the company money by bringing the training to the employee (Bohlander & Snell, S. A., 2007). This will also allow the employee to pace themselves while making sure he or she has a full understanding of the issue at hand. Although this will be a self paced program it will also require a certification exam. Finally we will provide team efficiency training which will focus on increasing the amount of employees that attend the organization pep rallies. For this training program we will provide team incentives geared toward our employees. We will focus on complete team training, giving the employees the opportunity to provide feedback. The organization will answer questions and provide insight as to what the pep rallies are and how they affect the employee. Issues that might indicate a need for team efficiency training can be the lack of input the employees have for these pep rallies. By allowing the employees to provide input and suggestions, we are providing them with team spirit. New Employee Training 7 Evaluation The final step in the training process is the evaluation. The evaluation compares the post training results to the companies required objectives. We will use two basic criterions when conducting an evaluation. First criterion will be reactions; “happy trainees will be more likely to want to focus on training principles and to utilize the information on the job” (Bohlander & Snell, S. A., 2007, p.324). Our next criterion will be learning; according to Bohlander & Snell, S. A, “testing knowledge and skills before beginning a training program gives a baseline standard on trainees that can be measured again after training to determine improvement” (2007, p.324). With the combined use of these evaluation criteria, we will have clearer results as to the effectiveness of each training program. The evaluation process helps the organization set priorities for learning and development. This process can reduce redundant or unproductive training programs, improve program design, and pinpoint and improve processes that are not working. By reviewing the training needs we can plan, design and prepare future training programs and compare them to the organizations objectives. Before we begin with any training program we will first identify the employees existing knowledge, skills and abilities. By applying the needs assessment, designing a training program, developing and implementing the program and preparing a system that to evaluate the training program, we will provide our new and existing employees the necessary tools for effective training. When considering positions directly above and below my position I would use the same training system. This training system chosen for pct is a training system that focuses on everyone within the organization. New Employee Training 8 References Bohlander, G. W., & Snell, S. A., (2007).
