Running head Learning Team Re ection Learning Team Re ection Your Name MGT311 Organizational Development Date Learning Team Re ection 2 In week three we discussed different strategies that would help to develop effective groups and teams We also discussed different strategies to help resolve con ict within organizations The following information will discuss what Team C learned during this week s assignment A team is a group of people working together to achieve a common goal An effective team has certain characteristics that allow the team members to function more efficiently and productively It develops ways to share leadership roles ways to share accountability for their work products and develops a specific team purpose and concrete work products that the members produce together The Guide to Managing for Quality According to Robbins and Judge 2011 there are four types of teams Teams involve making products provide services negotiate deals coordinate projects offer advice and make decisions Problem solving is when the team would share ideas suggestions and how to improve methods Self managed is when someone that is highly related or when interdependent jobs take on many or the same responsibilities as their supervisors Cross Functional usually consist of members who function on the same level but come together from different work areas to accomplish a task Virtual teams allow members to communicate via online video conferencing or e mail Therefore strategies for developing an effective team include context composition and process As groups are developing they navigate through five stages It is believed that the first four stages are the most crucial to the effectiveness of the group The first stage consists of forming which the members of the group understand acceptable behaviors and begin to feel as Learning Team Re ection 3 part of the group The second stage is the storming stage where members accept the group but they are in con ict over who is controlling the group The third stage known as the norming stage which is defined as the stage that solidifies structure and the group has accepted a common set of guidelines The fourth stage is the performing stage where the members have moved past interpersonal relationship to addressing the task The last stage is the adjourning stage where the members prepare to wrap up the group and officially have completed the project The stages may not necessarily ow in through in the correct order but all stages will be performed and the group may repeat stages if needed One of the most important discussions and objectives in week three was to determine strategies for con ict resolution within organizations Before getting to this process of solving a con ict one must properly define and understand what this concept means According to Robbins and Judge 2011 a con ict is a process that starts when one of the parties perceives another party has or it will negatively impact something the first party cares about Probably the most encountered way of dealing with con ict inside organizations is through negotiation The negotiation process takes place when two or more parties involved in a con ict decide to collaborate with each other on how to allocate scarce resources The first step in the process of negotiation is represented by preparation and planning This refers to determining the nature of the con ict parties perception of the con ict the desired outcomes for the negotiation and the goals that are to be followed when negotiating The second step is represented by the definition of ground rules which refer to the location where the negotiation takes place the individuals who will be in the negotiation the time constraints the procedures and so on The third step is clarification and justification while the fourth step is bargaining and problem solving The Learning Team Re ection process of negotiation concludes with closure and implementation of the considered solution to the con ict which was defined in the fourth step of the process Learning Team Re ection References Robbins SP amp Judge T A 2011 Organizational behavior 14th ed Upper Saddle River NJ PearsonPrentice Hall The Guide to Managing for Quality 1998 Strategies for Developing an Effective Team Retrieved from httpercmshorggualityittoolsittipstmcfm
