Do employers have the right to screen for A Chronic illness B Smoking C Weight Now today more than ever I think employers would like to ask to screen their employers for chronic illness smokingand wait but I do not believe we have yet hit that point where they have the right Many employees in health care push their wellness programs and incentives on their employees and this is extremely beneficial for the employee and the employer However I have seen and worked with many health care workers who themselves are poor examples to our patients on good health care One area I do find interesting though in today39s workplace is the quotat will firequot that is in place At my place of employment they need no reason to fire so if you really wanted to put some thought into it if someone has been gaining weight has become less productive because of this will the company let them go for this reason but not state this I am not sure if they do or don39t I have seen many individuals get let go for such silly things and have always wondered if there was something underlying that caused it For myself personally being a Respiratory Therapist I would be just fine with companies prohibiting employees who smoke I say this only because I watch what smoking does on a daily basis to my patients and when health care workers come into work and go see patients smelling like smoke themselves how are they to encourage and teach patients that is not healthy and is a habit that is worth being kicked It is very personal to me and many may disagree That is the lucky part of living here in the USA but then the government and employers should not be responsible for picking up the health bills
