quality management philosophies hold that prevention costs are the most critical quality related costs What is the logic behind this premise Prevention costs are the costs of trying to prevent poorquality products from reaching the customer Russell amp Taylor 2009 p 79 The logic behind a number of qualitymanagement philosophies that prevention costs are the most critical qualityrelated cost is the simple understanding of do it right the first time Prevention costs assist in avoiding internal and external failure costs associated with poor quality Would you apply this logic as an operations manager EXplain why or why not As an operations manager yes I would apply the do it right the first time logic Doing it right the first time avoids costs in having to correct errors or even completely start over I do apply this logic at work and home At work I encourage employees to take pride in their work in that do so results in a higher quality service If an employee does not take pride in their work low quality will result and increase failure In the same I apply this logic at home with my daughter I feel teaching children at a young age to take pride in things they do will benefit them as adults This logic can be applied in everyday simple tasks such as chores If chores are not completed correctly the first time then I require them to be done over until such time the chore is completed proper I have experienced great success in this method in that my daughter has learned that it is much easier to complete her chores right the first time rather than having to redo them over and over Reference Russell R S amp Taylor B W 2009 Operations Management Creating Value Along the Supply Chain 6th ed Hoboken NJ John Wiley amp Sons What is quality management According to Russell and Taylor 2009 The Oxford American Dictionary defines quality as a degree or level of excellence therefore quality management is much the same as it sounds the management of quality Why is it important for every manager to understand Quality management is important for every manager to understand Since quality is a major factor in consumers purchases companies must understand quality management and how customers interpret quality The reason is simple customers who are very happy and delighted are less likely to switch to a competitor which translates to profits A high level of satisfaction creates an emotional bond instead of simply a rational preference Russell amp Taylor 2009 p 65 A manager that does not understand quality management could cost the company valuable customers in turn lowering profits Keeping an eye on quality management can build valuable bond with customers and keep customers from turn to competitors How might a quality management program affect productivity A quality management program might affect productivity by increasing productivity In addition a quality management program can reduce costs and improve profitability an effective quality management program can help to reduce qualityrelated costs and improve market share and profitability Quality management can also improve productivity the number of units produced from available resources Russell amp Taylor 2009 p 83 Reference Russell R S amp Taylor B W 2009 Operations Management Creating Value Along the Supply Chain 6th ed Hoboken NJ John Wiley amp Sons What are the major elements of project management Project management is the management of the work to develop and implement an innovation or change in an existing operation Russell amp Taylor 2009 p 357 Project management has three primary elements planning scheduling and control Planning Planning is the first element of project management Objectives project scope contract requirements schedules resources personnel control and risk and problem analysis Scheduling The second element in project management is typically the most critical element in the project management process especially during the implementation phase ie the actual project work and it is the source of most con ict and problems Russell amp Taylor 2009 p 364 Control The third element in project management is the process of making sure the project progresses toward a successful completion Russell amp Taylor 2009 p 365 This stage requires monitoring and measuring of progress to assure deviations from the plan are discovered and corrected Describe the role of the project manager in conjunction with project control Since projects are generally unique and the outcome uncertain the most important member of the project team is the project manager Russell amp Taylor 2009 p 360 The project manager must plan schedule and control the project What are the requisite skills that the project manager must possess Some requisite
