Pandora Life Cycle Management Analysis Pandora AXIA University of Phoenix MKT 230 Introduction to Marketing Life Cycle Management Analysis Pandora Pandora 2 Pandora is an internet radio company This company originally only offered music through the computer However Pandora is expanding into other areas such as the IPod and cellular phones to give the consumer more choices of music Clifford 2007 A customer keys in a song or singer and music choices come up from bands and singers similar to what the consumer wants to hear Pandora began development in 2000 Pandora has had its difficulties however continues to reach out with new ideas to interest the public Clifford 2007 Pandora marketing strategies involves the use of music that radio listeners would not normally be able to listen to HowDragon 2010 In addition Pandora is a free limited music service However after 40 hours of free music there is a fee In addition to receive the free music the listener has to listen to advertisements mixed in with the songs Layton 2009 Pandora is only available in the United States Ellis 20032010 When Pandora began listeners could only hear the music through the computer In addition to use Pandora listeners had to have an internet connection Additionally Pandora is limited to the music it plays because of copyright laws HowDragon 2010 For example if a person wants to hear Allen Jackson the person will not hear Allen Jackson but will hear similar artists Pandora has run into legal issues over the music and as a result advertisements can be heard in with the music Hathaway 2009 Pandora offers many types of easily obtainable legally downloadable music Gatto 2010 Pandora 3 Pandora is a growing company What started out as an intemetbased radio service is also available on the IPod In addition Pandora is available on Sprint phones and Sonos Clifford 2007 Pandora is also available on Slim Devices inhome music players which uses wireless WiFi to receive the music such as the Livio Radio Radio 2009 Pandora developing iphone is a plus for the company However if the consumer were listening to Pandora s music the listener is unable to do anything else with the iphone at the same time for example the consumer would not be able to check email Buskirk 2008 Pandora has run into issues since 2000 and has almost shut down because of money and legal issues Corvida 2008 Pandora has been virtually kept alive due to the refusal to quit by its founder Tim Westergren Clifford 2007 Pandora has been around for 10 years In addition the company is still in the growth stage of production The company struggles to stay a oat even with the eight million listeners The management of the company has learned through trial and error Clifford 2007 For example Pandora blocked UK listeners because of the rise of royalty rates Even though Pandora is giving the music industry free advertisement of the music the music industry does not understand that Pandora is free marketing of their music Corvida 2008 The maturity stage of Pandora will depend on the music listeners the rights of the music industry and any upcoming new laws regulating the free music Ellis 20032010 In addition the money situation of Pandora depends on the advertisements and the number of people willing to sign up to pay for the music after their allotted amount of allowable free forty hours of music Layton 2009 Pandora 4 Pandora could reach the decline stage because of the types of music offered For example the music is alternatives to popular artists This may be appealing to many people but not appealing to others who want to hear the popular music Viewpoints 2010 Moreover Pandora only plays the explicit version of songs which also does not appeal to everyone Layton 2009 In addition because of the rising costs advertisements could increase as it has with other internet radio stations Layton 2009 Which many people could find unappealing to have to listen to advertisements in between songs In addition Pandora needs to find a marketing strategy that would make the listeners willing to pay for the service after the 40 hours of airtime Money is one of the key factors hurting this company and hindering the growth Layton 2009 Without capital generated from the public the company could disappear Layton 2009 In addition more advertisement of the company would also be a plus I do not agree with how Pandora has managed each stage of development The company has gone in blindly and with not enough capital to keep the company a oat Clifford 2007 As a result the company has to rely on others to help finance this venture Ellis 20032010 The introduction stage started good Pandora has a staff of knowledgeable people with college degrees and experience Pandora 2009 However not enough research into copyright laws resulting in problems hurt the beginning growth Ellis 20032010 For example free music still comes with a price The price for Pandora is advertisements and not all artists in the available choices In addition more thought to the future and generating revenue is a factor needing to be addressed Layton 2009 Pandora had been learning by trial and error which can be a costly way to learn Especially when the problem areas could have possibly been prevented with research that research such as copyrights Clifford 2007 Pandora References Buskirk E V 2008 July 10 Sweet Pandora s
