I.      Prepare a Resume A. Conventional Paper Resume (hardly used today) 1. This style of resume is 1 to 2 page, well organized, summary of  accomplishments 2. Designed to be mailed or handed directly to the employer 3. In order to prevent the resume from being duplicated, it is hard to scan into an  electronic file B. Chronological Resume 1. This style of resume lists the applicant’s previous work experience in the  order in which it occurred C. Functional Resume 1. This style of resume focuses on the skills gained from previous work  experience rather than the work experience itself D. Hybrid Resume 1. This style of resume combines the chronological resume with the functional  resume  2. It first lists the skills gained by the applicant’s previous work experience  followed by the list of previous work in order E. It is important to point out if an applicant’s previous job ended badly sometime  early on during the application process 1.   The applicant should be honest about the reasoning behind their previous         job’s termination F. Scannable Resume 1.   This style of resume is made to be scanned and saved on a computer 2.   This style of resume can be scanned by a computer for key words 3.   Some companies will scan the resume for specific key words. If those words        don’t appear, that application is terminated G. Keyword Summary 1. This summary consists all the applicants skills on a list separated by periods H. Qualifications Summary 1. “Begins with clear and powerful career goal and is followed with a bulleted  list of three to five values and qualifications in key word­packed phrases  beginning with action verbs”  (Nishimura, 2009, par. 13) II.     Interviewee: Preparing for the Interview A. Impression Management 1. This form of management is the effort for people to improve their image to  others B. 3 Codes Contribute to First Impressions: 1. Verbal       a) What we say 2. Vocal 1       a) How we say it 3. Visual a) Our dress, appearance, and non­verbal cues C. Successful Applicants most often used these five type of comments or impression­ management techniques: 1. Describing yourself and your abilities in a positive and polite manner without  sounding full of yourself 2. Describing previous situations and personal stories in which you are shown in  the best light 3. Your opinions in the interview should go along with the interviewer 4. Revealing your responsibility for outstanding events in your previous jobs 5. Ensuring that all statements made about the company and previous jobs are  positive 2
