Cincinnati Catfishing Bait Some of the baits I have used for useful for CATFISHing here on the Ohio River are , chicken liver, minnows, shrimp, Spam, french Fries and more. Fresh chicken liver works more effectively than frozen liver that has thawed away. It does get attacks however, cats peck at it therefore by the time you select up the rod they have cleaned the bait off the catch. My experience may be the fish swallows the bait more usually than getting hooked. The biggest drawback is actually keeping the bait on the hook whenever casting from the financial institution. Trying to get a long cast with poultry liver is very challenging. It seems like half the time the liver will certainly just fly off the hook with any forceful cast. This is no problem if you are angling from a boat, merely flip it out as well as feed it collection so the current may take it away from the vessel for you. Spam can get bites but is even more difficult to cast in the bank. Three from four cast is able to see the bait go flying in the air before the line visits the water. Shrimp can be useful for it does have a aroma to it and keeps on the hook whenever casting from the financial institution. You normally have to get the shrimp when it's on sale and deep freeze it. Then have it out the night before a person fish to let it thaw out. Minnows are good for there a large number of fish that will nourish on them beside catfish. So even if the cats are not biting you could get a perch, largemouth bass , stripper or a white bass. Yes! i did say French french fries as bait! i have caught channel cats up river as well as right in the downtown Cincinnati area on french FRIES. I did read posting from a person that caught any large Flathead about fries by one of the restaurants on the lake in Newport Ky. Any fast food location that sells french fries works. If possible select some up whenever heading to your spot so they are on the warm side. That allows the grease to get into the water to produce a scent trail less difficult. I had positive results in February 04 using chunks of steak for bait. I caught 8 bluecats with it, greatest being 13 pounds. It did not matter whether it was raw or perhaps grilled with spices. So if you have some scuff marks left over from a cookout just put it in a small freezer bag. For those who have a friend that works well in a restaurant which has steak, ask them to create up doggie carrier of scraps to suit your needs. It stays on the hook very well whenever casting and the bass have a hard time just pecking it off the catch. All of those eight bass were hooked, not one swallowed it. Therefore i was able to released these phones grow bigger for an additional season. This previous summer I was able to use a casting web to get some gizzard and thinfin shad for bait. These kinds of fish die extremely quickly. So I merely cut them upwards for bait. Skipjack is a great bait if you're able to get them. Around Cincinnati they can be caught on a rod and reel in the drop. Other than that the just place I know for skipjack year round may be the power plant at Aberdeen Ohio. I have some frozen cut skipjack from previous Fall to start off in 2010. July 19 2003 I caught 2 Channel Cats about 2 1/2 weight. Using the skin through fried chicken. It says on the catch for casting a.K. Had three other bites but they stripped off the bait. I'm not sure if big cats bite onto it. Just started deploying it today. So when your family is done eating their chicken dinner put the scraps of epidermis in a small zip secure bag in the freezer till you go angling. ALso learnd within July 2003 through another Catfisherman about Chicken nuggets for bait. He had been telling me about this a couple time this summer. The other 7 days I saw your pet actually catch any 5 lb. Channel cat out of the lake using chicken nuggets. He turn to me personally and said that had been the smallest one of the afternoon. He had landed 5 other cats before that morning as well as released them. He had stopped at wendy's and picked up any 6 nugget offering that morning. He was quoted saying he has used additional companies nuggets previously. I hope you get a chance to try out some of these baits this season. Tight lines and plenty of actions to all!
