Understanding The Hawaiian Flag The Hawaiian flag has a long but interesting history behind it. Many historians usually provide different details about its origin. However, almost all versions of history point to Kamaheha I (Kamaheha the great) as the person who was responsible for its inception. This short article is all about this amazing flag: its origin, meaning and significance. Read on… The meaning behind the flag of Hawaii In sequence for us to understand the meaning behind this flag, it is important for us to first of all know more about the king who oversaw its introduction. Kamaheha the great, also known as Kamaheha I, was a successful leader who came after the reign of several separate chiefs. He is known to have united all the 8 Hawaiian islands when he was a skilled warrior in his heydays. Kamaheha the great was devoted to sovereignity and welfare of his subjects. He wanted to establish a Condition where each Hawaiian would feel proud to live in. He never allowed outsiders to interfere with internal Hawaiian affairs. However, this does not mean that he was hostile to his neighbors. No, in fact he was known to advocate for relaxing coexistence amongst different folks, he lobbied for alliances and harmonious living. It was during his reign that Hawaii became a major player in the global market. His values inspired the design of the Hawaiian flag. What was behind the Hawaiian flag design? During Kamaheha's reign, Hawaii established connections with many different Conditions. In 1816, the Condition of Hawaii was maturing at a fast pace. There was need to have a unifying factor and a sense of pride. This drove Kamaheha and his subjects to designing a flag. What we see today was a brainchild of a renowned officer of the navy who was chosen by King Kamaheha to handle this noble task. Interpreting The Hawaii Flag union flag- The united Kingdom played a key role in the improvement of Hawaii. This explains why the union flag found its way on to the design of the Hawaii flag. A second-fold meaning that can be derived from the inclusion of the UK's flag is that this flag is a representation of alia. Alia is a chiefly symbol that is formed by two crossed spears with another upright spear. Eight Horizontal Stripes- Hawaii is made up of 8 amazing islands. Each of these islands is symbolized by a single stripe on this flag. They are: Maui, Oahu, Kauai, Molokai, Kahoolawe, Niihau, the Big Hawaiian island and Lanai. The original version of the Hawaiian flag is said to have consisted of seven stripes. Alternating white-red-blue stripe sequence- This sequence was merely meant to form a flow of color. However, some claim that this sequence was made by error. Meaning The flag of Hawaii has different meanings to different observers. However, the main meanings behind the design of this flag are: Hawaii's struggles, advancement in fashionable times, rich history and absolute sovereignity. It's no doubt that the Hawaiian flag is amazing. Not only is it wonderfully designed, but also has a deep meaning that keeps the folks of Hawaii proud of the Condition and united. hawaiian flag
