Public Dental Misconceptions… Having a fear of dentists can be harmful to your health. Ignoring the fact that everyone needs to visit the dentist regularly can result in gum disease, missing teeth, and long term health problems. While going to the dentist isn’t the most pleasant experience in the world, it shouldn’t be a bad one. The cosmetic dentistry has had many advancements over the past 20 years and is no longer viewed as a painful experience (by most). Many people believe that going to the dentist is painful. A trip to the dentist should never be painful. A good, responsible dentist will take the utmost care in making sure you are comfortable and relaxed. There is no reason to ever experience a significant amount of pain while you are at the dentist’s office. Another common misconception is that going to the dentist is just a way for dentist to collect money from you. Again, this is not true. Visiting a dentist regularly is not a substitute for brushing and flossing your teeth. Dentist’s visits allow you get more thorough cleanings, X- rays, cancer screenings and more. Others believe that young children have no reason to see the dentist. This is a far cry from the truth. Because baby teeth fall out, people tend to believe that they do not need to be taken care of as well as permanent teeth. However, taking care of baby teeth properly is crucial to making sure that the permanent teeth come in properly. Visiting a dentist does not have to be scary and will pay off for you in the long run. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and get the most out of your dentist visits. Finding an Irvine dentist is as quick as a simple Google search. If you are considering dental implants, chances are you have a lot of questions.
