MAZ ETHIOPIA TOUR Hiking in the Simien Mountains- “Roof ofAfrica” Transportation: 4 WD/ Bus Duration = 11 nights / 12 days Accommodation : 4* in Addis, the best possible standard hotel in other sites & well equipped camping gear for camping. Simien: is an area of highland country in the northern part of the province of administrative region of Bege midir. The word means “north “in Amharic, Ethiopian official language. The Simien highlands constitute one of the major mountain massifs in Africa. The region includes many summits above 4, 000 m and culminates the highest point in Ethiopia; Ras Dejen the dramatic topography is the result of the erosion of basalt lavas which have been calculated to be nearly 3,000 meters thick. Itinerary Day 1:Arrival in AddisAbaba You will be met at Bole International Airport, Addis Ababa, and a transferred to the Hotel from where the expedition will start in the morning. If your flight arrives in Addis Ababa during the morning or afternoon, there may be time to take in some of the city sights before dinner at the hotel. Day 2: FlyAddis-Gondar, drive to Sanka Ber (3,200m) Fly from Addis to Gondar and drive 136 km north to Sanka Ber via Debark, the headquarters of Simien Mountains National Park. Around Sankaber, make short walks to visit the incredible Simien Mountains and one of the endemic mammals of Ethiopia. Overnight: First class camping gear with private cook and necessary camping gears (B, L, D) Day 3: Sankaber – Geech (3,550m) Trekking time: 5 – 6 hrs Activities: Trek from Sanka Ber to Geech visiting the Jinbar Falls and with stops to visit the other views of the Simien Mountains. Overnight: Camping (B, L, D) Day 4: Geech – Emiet gogo (3,986m) – Geech Trekking time: ~ 6 hrs Activities: Make excursion to Emet Gogo to have one of the best views of in the Simien Mountains National Park. Overnight: First class camping gear with private cook and necessary camping gears (B, L, D) Day 5: Geech - Chenek (3,600m) Trekking time: ~ 7 hrs Activities: Trek from Geech to Chenek. Today you will have a chance to visit the other endemic not only to Ethiopia but only to the Simien Mountains – the Walia Ibex. Overnight: First class camping gear with private cook and necessary camping gears (B, L, D) Day 6: Chenek –Ambiquo Trekking time: 6 – 8 hrs Activities: Trek from Chenek to Ambiquo climbing Bwahit Mountain the 2 highest peak next to Ras Dashen in Simien Mountain ranges. (B, L, D) Day 9: Chenek- Gondar Driving time: 5 hours Activities: Drive back to Gondar, and make sightseeing tour of Gondar. Overnight: Florida Hotel (3* Hotel) (B, L, D) Day10: Gondar – Lalibela After breakfast, transfer in to airport for your flight to Lalibela that is home to the 12th century handy carved rock churches of King Lalibela (1181 - 1221) whom the town is named after. After lunch in your hotel, visit the first group churches of Lalibela (UNESCO World Heritage Site) which are found northeast of a stream named ‘River Jordan’. Overnight: Lal / similar Hotel (3* hotel) (B, L, D) Day 11: Lalibela (the new Jerusalem) In the morning, make a mule back ride to the hill top semi monolithic church of Asheten Mariam (13th Century AD). The peak of the hill offers a wonderful viewpoint to have bird eye view of the surrounding area including the town of Lalibela. In the afternoon, visit the second and the third group of churches of Lalibela. Overnight: Lal / Similar Hotel (3* hotel) (B, L, D) Day 12: Fly Lalibela –Addis- Departure Fly back to Addis and make sightseeing tour of Addis Ababa that includes visiting the National Archeological Museum, Mercato (the largest open air market in East Africa). We will also have time for shopping.
