Running head: RESEARCH METHOD In the first chapter, here are three learning objectives to gain a better understanding of  how to use the research method. I have learned to identify the different types of understanding  about human behaviors, positive and quantitative approach to science, and interpretive and  qualitative approach to science. During the class lecture, I will be using and learning how to use  research methods for social work. This will help social workers gain a beginning of  understanding the proper procedures to develop skills. It seems social worker overlook different  social work journals and have a difficult time figuring out the solutions to client’s problems. By  using research methods, it helps social workers how to approach to client’s needs and the  agencies. In this chapter, there are some common types of human behaviors with understanding of  their values, intuition, past experience, authority, and science. Values are what different cultural  beliefs and background bid by traditionally to what is right and wrong. Intuition is paying  attention to what your gut is telling you. It is pretty much a selfconscious thing. By past  experiences, there will be some personal participation in the practice setting to guide social  workers to have a better outcome. It will help with decision making skill in the present and future actions. I agree past participation can help with being competent within certain events. In the  practice setting, it is interesting that social workers can seek their own opinions and knowledge.  The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) guide and direct social workers in  different areas to assist with clients. Social workers should be objective to rely on the scientific  method. In the section, it stated how science plays a major role in how people work. The  characteristics of using scientific method are universalism, organized skepticism,  disinterestedness, communalism and honesty. Universalism is the conclusion should come out to  Running head: RESEARCH METHOD be the same results. Skepticism is a way for looking for evidence. All of the scientific evidence  should be questioned. Disinterestedness explains how a person that is doing the research, does  not care what the research outcome. Communalism meaning is the whole point of doing research is sharing with the community. Honesty is telling the truth about all research. In social work, the  NASW Code of Ethics stated social workers should behave in trustworthy manner towards the  agency and clients.  In the conceptions of science, I feel quantitative approach or method works well of how  science should be done. The observations are to be objectively that support theories. In social  work, skepticism is used the same things as the scientific method. According to Kuhn, paradigms is like a map that directs social workers to address and solve problems. Feminist researchers  view how science affects the word. Men and women personal experiences are completely  different, but the objective model of science explains how men’s way of thinking. The most  interesting part about feminist researches is they view the world differently. Women see the  world more about relationships and interactions.  In social work, the positivist results in science  because research models are shown by people in the social science. In quantitative research,  deductive reasoning involves in laying out general, abstract propositions that are used to generate specific hypotheses to test in unique. Thirdly, the interpretive and qualitative approach to science are based on people  assumption on reality. Researchers are interested in description than explanation. For example, a  social work practice, children experience behavioral problems in school. By collecting the case  results, theories are developing concepts that give us a way to communicate about phenomena.  Theories are created by observing children behavior problems. Qualitative approach or  Running head: RESEARCH METHOD qualitative researchers collects qualitative data to generate information. Participants in the study  are often small because they focus on understanding the participant’s subjective experience of  the phenomena.  In conclusion, this chapter described the different types of human behaviors with  understanding of their values, intuition, past experience, authority, and science. In social  practice, the positivist and quantitative and interpretist and qualitative approach to science  addressed the different types of research questions to asked people in the practice setting.  I have  learned social workers should be honest and assist with clients. By using the research method,  social worker in decision making become difficult in the work setting. They are competent with  specific skills to assist others in different areas. The research method help social workers to used  proper producers when handling difficult experiences.
