Directed the team charged with clean up and interim recovery of University of Texas Medical Branch classroom and research facilities that suffered severe damage when Hurricane Ike devastated Galveston Island in the Fall of 2008. Identified and prioritized key buildings that disaster teams needed to quickly restore to operational status in order to keep multi-million dollar research grants in place. IMPACT: Received “Heart & Soul Award” from the University President for heroic and unselfish efforts demonstrated to restore critical life safety functions to the Medical School and its patient care facilities; UTMB was able provide interim student housing and education facilities to quickly restart operations and avoid losing its accreditation as a Medical School; Researchers were able to maintain critical multi-million dollar research grants. Designed, built, commissioned, and furnished a new $5M Astronaut Quarantine Facility that consolidated all of the pre/post flight activities at a single facility thereby significantly reducing risk of crews becoming sick before or after Space missions. The AQF provided lodging, dining, exercise, medical, and training accommodations for Shuttle flight crews. IMPACT: The new facility was safely constructed to meet all of the requirements of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to be certified as a Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED) building. Hand-picked to manage a challenging and complicated project to renovate and upgrade NASA’s photo processing laboratory which involved decontamination, removal and disposing of hazardous underground chemical piping and storage tanks in accordance with stringent EPA and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TECQ) regulations. IMPACT: Timely and effective completion of the project eliminated risks of Johnson Space Center being fined millions of dollars (up to $1M/daily) for none compliance. Developed and executed the master plan for design and construction of facilities to support operational bed down of the U.S. Air Force - Strategic Air Command’s latest generation B-1B Bomber Aircraft at Dyess AFB, TX. Collaborated with multiple teams of design professionals to prepare detailed master plans to support $100M capital investment program. IMPACT: The master plan developed was used as the template for bed down of B-1B’s at four other air bases throughout the United States.
