USES OF REFLECTIVE OPTICS Reflective optics is optical coatings used on surface of lenses and other optical devices to reduce reflection. Metal optics is largely used in the field of aeronautics, laser technology, medical technology etc. They help in keeping the cost low; they are light weighted and ensure high performance by using the metal beryllium. Beryllium is corrosion resistant and has excellent stiffness to weight ratio. Optical surface finish is achieved by turning and milling process. Mirrors play a very important role in the optical systems. They have to often face stress, which may be physical or thermal. Metal optics is thus needed. Mirrors are objects which mostly have one side very highly polished. It’s a metallic coating which protects the coating from scratching off. High power laser being used may cause glass to either heat up to very high temperature. In such cases metal optics is the answer. Eye lenses also have this coating to reduce glint and make eyes of the wearer more visible.
