Role and importance of nurse assistants in medical field Nursing assistants may be known by several other names such as nurse aides, certified nurse assistant, orderlies and patient care technician. The job profile of these professionals may sometimes demand a great deal of patience, since it involves serving the patients and dealing with them. Nursing assistants are required in every medical unit. For major hospital, hiring skilled nursing assistant is an important part of their overall staffing procedure. That is the reason; it is a great career option in terms of security and also offers a good salary package. Types of nurse assistants The type of profile and their job responsibilities may vary according to the hospitals in which you these assistants work. Their nature and level of work will vary accordingly. For example, depending on the type of hospital, nurse assistants may have to work for a specific population such as children, senior citizens, pregnant women or may work for general public. They may also work for surgical patients and general medical patients. Significance Nurse assistants are an important part of every medical unit. Their major responsibility is to administer health care services under the supervision and directions of a certified and practicing nurse. The duties that these assistants usually perform include bathing and dressing the patients and helping them walk. Training and certifications Although most of the hospitals do provide on the job training sessions, but getting hands on certification would open up wider job opportunities for you. One can get enrolled in a medical school to get certification in this field. Apart from providing practical knowledge and skills required to become a nursing assistant, many medical schools have job placement cells, so as to help their students get best job opportunities. In addition to all these considerations, the demand for nurse assistant jobs is expected to improve by nineteen percent by the year 2018. So one can expect a shining growth by opting this as a career option!
