PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE CENTRAL TRANSPORT, LLC November 1983 to October 2012 Terminal Manager Allentown, Pennsylvania, 1992 to October 2012 o Managed the 169-door break bulk facility, which provided service into and out of the Northeast to thirty- four terminals o Shipments were loaded damage-free and in a timely manner to satisfy these thirty-four terminals and their customers o Working with a staff of sixty dock personnel, we continually met our service, load factor, and productivity targets o Additionally, I managed the Pickup and Delivery operation servicing Allentown and the surrounding areas o Sixteen city drivers and nine line haul drivers consistently met our service and revenue attainment goals From November 2009 to May 2012, I was also responsible for managing DOCK SPECIALIST, INC., which was owned and operated by Central Transport. Dock Specialist, Inc. ran the dock operation for the Sears Menlo Flow- Thru Center. The Flow-Thru Center serviced the distribution centers of Sears and K-Mart throughout the United States. My responsibilities included but not limited to: o Setting up the physical facility to make sure it was ready for the new start-up o Hiring and training the dock checkers to meet Sears Menlo requirements o Working alongside my team to impart the drive and work ethic necessary to service our customer o Meeting daily with our customer Sears Menlo to discuss any problems or concerns o Maintaining my team’s spotless record of never having a paid freight claim charged against us, accomplished through constant training Terminal Manager Cleveland, Ohio, 1990 to 1992 o This two-hundred-door break bulk facility provided service into and out of the Midwest for the shipping public o Responsible for eighty full-time union dock employees plus eighty-one casual employees o Through my guidance and leadership, my team increased load factor and dock productivity goals to the best in the entire company o Promoted to Terminal Manager in Allentown, Pennsylvania Assistant Terminal Manager Cleveland, Ohio, 1986 to 1990 o Responsible for the two-hundred-door terminal operation during the night and early morning o It was here where I learned to effectively utilize manpower to accomplish daily tasks to meet and surpass company targets o Learned to make decisions without specific instructions and to take reasonable risk to achieve results o Promoted to Terminal Manager at this facility in 1990 Operations Manager Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 1983 to 1986 o This was a local Pickup and Delivery terminal that had eight city drivers and two line haul drivers o Responsible for the day to day operations, since this terminal did not have a manager o Since I was new to the company, much of my training was through trial and error and my ability to build the trust of my ten drivers o The terminal did well and I was promoted from this eight-door terminal to the facility in Cleveland, Ohio STRENGTHS AND EXPERTISE THROUGH EXPERIENCE o Mentoring and coaching to increase the skill and talent levels of each member of the team o Proven ability to manage multiple projects to a successful outcome in a fast-paced environment o Ability to manage constant change and the capacity to work under pressure to meet deadlines o Computer skills, including PC literacy in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel o Management and enforcement of housekeeping and safety rules with all personnel o Training in hazardous material and in the proper handling of incidents that occur because of accidents involving it o Certification in underground storage tanks, including how to monitor them for leaks o Excellent forklift operation skills and proficiency in the use of other freight moving tools o Expertise as a yard jockey, moving trailers at the terminal o Certification in reasonable suspicion workplace substance abuse o Proficiency in taking reasonable risk in order to achieve anticipated outcomes and in making decisions without explicit instructions o Effective utilization of manpower to accomplish daily tasks that help meet and achieve company goals o Daily collaboration with supervisory staff to direct, review, and monitor the work being done by the team in order to maximize efficiency and productivity o Identification of wasted time and effort to promote continuous improvement in productivity o Propensity for instilling a sense of urgency in my employees o Effective listening and understanding of information prior to taking action o Willingness to and demonstrated aptitude for working in extreme cold and heat as a hands-on manager who spends a lot of time with the team, regardless of challenging conditions o Experienced leadership in a team-based environment EDUCATION Bachelor of Science in Business Administration / Management Clarion University, Clarion, Pennsylvania ACTIVITIES AND INTERESTS Weight training, daily bicycle riding, hiking, hunting, target shooting
