Family Diversity – Week 1 Wednesday  Color Blind: What does it mean? o Can ignore what minority groups are going through if you think everyone is the  same o Cannot be truly objective o Scheme: mental representation (putting stereotypes into boxes) o We need to move to cultural cognizance and respect and recognize individuality  Mirror o The only one you can change is yourself o Potentially color blinding because you only look at your world view o Reflects back on your values and beliefs o Belongs to each individual o No one has the right to dictate another person’s mirror  Window (cultural cognizance) o Able to recognize that all families and individuals have a different mirror (or  worldview) o Recognize and respect with a nonjudgmental attitude
