Fine Arts Documentation: Photographing 2D Artwork Step 1. Hang artwork on the wall with pushpins, making sure that it is straight. Pin white card on wall beside it. Step 2. Walk the camera mounted on the tripod up to artwork and adjust tripod until the camera is centered vertically and horizontally with the artwork. Make sure the white card is visible within the camera’s frame. Step 3. Adjust the two lights stands so that they are the same height as the camera. Move each one an equal distance from camera, using the floor tiles as measurement. To determine position of lights, stand at the artwork and face camera. Step 4. Lights should be positioned in a straight line with the camera, equally spaced, and aimed at a 45-degree angle towards the artwork. Step 5. Turn camera on. Make sure it is set on Program and Camera Raw. Adjust tripod up and down until the artwork is in the center of the viewfinder. Do not tilt the camera, and make sure it is parallel to the artwork. Step 6. After photographing your work, remove the SD Card from the camera and insert it into the back of the computer. An icon will appear on the desktop, which you can use to access your photos on the SD Card. Step 7. Select all of the photographs of your work from the SD Card and copy them to the Original Photographs (RAW) folder on your storage device. It is highly recommended that you delete your files from the SD Card after copying them to your own device. Diagrams Above View: Front View:
