About Sacred spaces: “Their value resided in the community’s subconscious but loomed large in the conscious minds of locals after four things happened.” What were the four things? Fact- The first thing that happened was that the places were threatened and the second was that the places were legitimized.(Marissa Farotto). Fact- The third was that the collective picture of valued places was presented to community and fourth was places were consecrated by residents. (Marissa Farotto). Analysis- The people of the town were emotionally attached to these places. When the reality hit that their town was changing that is when they saw the importance of the sacred structures in their everyday lives. (Marissa Farotto) Why oysters? Fact- oysters can accept algae from one end and through its organs clean it to have an outtake or clean filtered water, one oyster can filter 50 gallons of water in one day. (Marissa Farotto) Fact- Oysters can form together and make a natural reef structure and are also a base of the ecosystem. (Marissa Farotto). Analysis - this is a natural and clean way to clean New York's river. Oysters are much less expensive than some temporary machine to clean the water and oysters are not endangered or close to it, so this can be a long term solution to filtering the water.
