Clinical Psych  1/8/16  Psychiatrists medical model (advertising)  Psychologists psychological model   Psychiatrists have default because they’re training is medical (biochemical) so they’re  going to treat with biochemical (look at problem and treat with medication)   Psychologists­ if it’s not life threatening, why not try the psychological model first (fewer side effects) takes more time and effort but is effective   Many medications are long term and numb problems but not fix them   Counseling psychologist are a subset of clinical psychologists   Counseling have less serious problems than clinical   School psychologists do assessment (social, emotional, intellectual) and is intense o Meet with teachers and parents and make a plan then move on to the next child   Counselors do work within the school system and work at the discretion of the principal   Mental health techs (undergrad in psych) which is like a nurse or case worker but sadly  there’s not a lot of room for advancement
