Danyellia West 10/5/2015 1. PT or OT a. I would chose occupational therapy based on the information that I know because occupation therapy is open to a broader aspect of patients. It’s not always the same thing every day. You can help with physical or mental illnesses. b. They can help children with their hand-eye coordination and motor skills. They help patients regain their daily lives after specific events such as hip replacement or stroke. They also can help develop coping mechanisms for clients with mental disorders. c. They usually work 40 hour weeks, and are on their feet most of the day. Most work in spacious rooms equipped with machines, tools, and other devices. 2. Audiology or Speech Pathology a. I would choose Speech Pathology based on the information that I know because I think studying and helping people with problems with speech would be really interesting. b. Speech pathologists evaluate and treat patients with articulation disorders, expressive and receptive language impairments or delays, and stuttering. c. Speech pathologists work in a variety of settings, including educational settings, health care facilities and private practice, among others. They work 40 hours per week, and work as a part of a team. 3. Education training for each career a. PT: Bachelor’s degree from accredited university and 3 years of PT school to earn DPT b. Audiology: Bachelor’s degree (some schools offer communication science programs) and atleast 4 years of graduate school for a doctorate c. OT: Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, sociology, or psychology. Then two years to complete master’s degree and some field work during master’s program. d. Speech Pathology: Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Speech Pathology e. Radiologic Sciences: Bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Sciences and further education depending on field of work 4. Plan B If being a Pediatrician didn’t work out I would probably either become a nurse and specialize in pediatrics or become a physician’s assistant and specialize in pediatrics. 5. Ranking a. Audiologist: 4 b. Physical Therapist: 5 c. Speech Pathologist: 1 d. Occupation Therapist: 2 e. Radiologic Sciences: 3
