Current Events Report: Students will be looking from the beginning of class for articles that appear in a mainstream news source (ABC/NBC/CBS/CNN/New York Times/LA Times/Philadelphia Inquirer, etc.) that address religious activity related to the religions we will be discussing in class. Students will need to choose two articles about two different religions. The article might be talking about some charitable work, conference, teaching or some conflict or crisis, etc. that the religion is currently engaging. The following questions need to be addressed in a 2-3 page essay per article: 1-summarize the article; 2-what religion(s) does it discuss and is there enough information in the article to understand the religion(s) without prior knowledge, explain with examples; 3-does the article fairly and accurately portray the religion (use critical thinking skills and provide examples for why/why not) and what perspective is the article written in and how does that perspective influence the presentation of the issues?; AND 4-what have you learned from reading the article and how important do you believe it is to be informed about different religions in our world today (explain and provide examples)
