Apparel Quality Analysis Week One: Day One – January 11, 2016 • What does a cross-functional team consist of? o Merchant o Buyer o Product developer o Designer o Production o Tech designer • What is the difference between a buyer and a merchant? o A buyer obtains styles from markets o A merchant designs a plan for in-house styles • What is quality? o #1 indicator: Price o #2 indicator: Brand o Durability o Material o Construction o Trimmings • What is the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic? o Intrinsic is the physical part of the clothing, such as the style and material o Extrinsic is the logistics of the garment, such as the price, brand, and where it was made • How does quality flow through a supply chain? o Fiber producer -> o Spinning mill (yarn production) -> o Fabric mill weaving/knitting -> o Fabric finishing -> o Dying and printing -> o Garment production -> o Consumer • What are the aspects of sustainability? o Environmental o Social o Financial • Knit fabrics take the lowest skilled labor • Think about the impact of cutting cost! o For example, it could force the workers to have longer hours and work in worse in conditions. It could also cause the quality of the garments to go down. Week One: Day Three – January 15, 2016 • Products will not ship with meeting certain quality standard set by the company • Each person in the group has to submit a worksheet • Have garments worn/washed by each “ex. end of week one of wearing” in the class schedule
