Subatomic Particles - Protons (+) - Electrons (-) - Neutrons (neutral) All atoms are neutral. In all atoms, the number of protons is equal to the number of electrons. Isotopes - Same number of protons and electrons, but a different number of neutrons. Example with H-Hydrogen Mass Number: 1 2 3 Atomic Number: 1 1 1 Number of Neutrons: 0 1 2 - Mass number = number of protons + number of neutrons
