History ofJapan 222016 Heian 7941185 CE Polity Great architecture and sculpture then something began to change Buddhism in India and China remained unorganized Buddhist in China were in this world but not off this world You must leave behind all distractions and pressure of life Buddhism became part of the second political structure Protection of the land responsibilities of the monasteries Sohei warrior monks or yamabushi mountain warriors Enryakuji Temple headquarters on Tendai Sanmon Sect Mount Hiei Kammu tenno 737806 Another change revolved around writing Borrowed from the Chinese but very difficult to learn Trying to t the native Japanese language into an entirely different system It was time to simplify it so that they could write in Japanese instead of Chinese The writing system developed based on the Chinese system but then evolved into a distinctly Japanese system Another major development affecting the land and economy The land system All the land was owned by the government and the emperor Land should be distributed by the government to the people so that the people could support themselves Every male and female could support themselves When you come of age you get your land When you retire you return your land to the government No private property For some Japanese this became a problem All the nobles leaders aristocrats they were not okay with it Also administration of the land distribution census running out of land who has land who will be getting land soon etc Get more land by reclaiming land Reclaiming land is expensive though and they couldn t pay for it By 732 a law was created saying 3 generations will be tax free if you stop reclaiming land Fujiwara Yoshifusa 804872 Fujiwara Michinaha 9661027 If people didn t get what they wanted or needed they complained It wasn t fun being emperor
