Professional and technical writing Letter of inquiry Your letter of inquiry is one of the most basic letterforms that you will use to obtain information There are some guidelines you will need to follow in order to complete your letter successfully and obtain what you are wanting to nd out think of journalist questions 00 Who Why kt What How kt Where When 0 To whom am I writing What is my goal The format of this letter can sometimes be a little tricky so remember it as full block Everything should be ush with the left margin of your document Sentences and paragraphs within are double spaced outside and single spaced within Meaning when you type out the addressed sender be sure it is double spaced before the salutation Here are a few more guidelines Paragraphs Your letter should be 35 paragraphs in length Paragraph one your request or reason for writing This paragraph will de ne your purpose Paragraph two your open ended questions a After your rst paragraph your main focus is to ask open ended questions I like to lead with the most dif cult and then get slightly easier That39s entirely up to you as the writer b Letter should be one page unless you attach another for your questions or a lled out envelope for the return response Paragraph three courteous close c This includes your easy action your motivation to action and appreciation and good will Check your book or ask your instructor for more guidelines on how they would like your letter of inquiry to look and what all needs to be addressed if anything is unclear
