What is Advertising? Advertising – paid form of communications from an identifiable source, delivered through a communication channel, designed to persuade the receiver to take some action, now or in the future. Advertising can: Inform (Ford truck), Persuade (HP vs Xerox), & Remind (M&Ms). Advertising can be: Informational (Gillette) & Emotional (Cologne). Advertising Communication Channels: Direct mail, Internet/Social Media, Radio, TV, Coupons, Billboards, etc. What is Society? Society – 1. The aggregate of people living together in a more or less ordered community. 2. The community of people living in a particular region and having shared customs, laws, and organizations. What is Advertising & Society?
