● All movements in the human body follow a circular path  ● Axis of Rotation­ a point in a body segment rotation takes place in  *Always describe direction using anatomical position  ● Planes of Motion­ movement through space that a body segment travels  ● A body segment parallels or mirrors the imaginary path described by the plane of motion.  ● Perpendicular to the axis of rotation is the plane of motion  ● Sagittal Plane of Motion­ medial to a lateral axis of rotation      ● Frontal Plane of Motion­ Anterior to posterior axis of rotation    ● Transverse Plane of Motion    ● Cardinal Plane of Motion­ where all three planes of motion intersect, the body’s center of  gravity    ● Diagonal Plane of Motion­ movements outside the three main planes of motion  ● Joint action­ occurs when the muscles perform a contraction  ● Concentric Contraction­ muscle shortens while contracting   *A muscle’s joint actions are determined by the movement that occurs as a result of a concentric  movement  ● Eccentric Contraction­ muscle lengthens while contracting(reverse muscle contraction)
