Marketing 331 Advanced Promotional Concepts Week 4 Notes Here are just a few extra notes that may help you out in the future. 1. How do you define your target market as a business owner? When it comes to advertising you can’t just make a commercial talking about your product. You need to make it appealing to the group your product is for. So…  First, you need to Segment your audience in to groups. This means split them up by age, gender, race, etc.  Next, you need to find which group you will Target, depending on your product.  Lastly, you will Position your ad to appeal to this group. Make an ad that will catch the attention of the group you have chosen. This is easy in some cases and others, not so much. But if you follow those steps you’ll have a much better ad for the product. 2. How to make a great ad. As we know from the Super Bowl 50 ads, there were some we liked, some we didn’t like, and some that just stuck in our head. Mountain Dew had a Kickstart ad that I don’t think anyone will forget anytime soon. PuppyMonkeyBaby was an odd commercial but it did as intended, it was talked about and won’t be forgotten. A few others did the same thing. But it’s not all about having it remembered, it’s about making your viewers want that product. Make them know the negatives that come when you don’t have it. Selling a product isn’t about telling your consumer to buy it, but making them tell themselves they need to buy it.
