HER-H 100 Art Appreciation Week 5 Vocab Photography- “to write with light” Heliography- bitumen/lavender oi Obscura- dark room Photo essay- a collection of photos on a single subject, arranged to tell a story Appropriation- the “borrowing” or stealing an image, text, or music from the past and representing it in a new context and as an original idea Censorship- the practice of examining a work in order to suppress or delete anything considered objectable Iconoclasm(image breaking)- the deconstruction of images in the name of spiritual purity Zoopraxiscope- a device which projected images onto a screen in rapid sequence Kinetoscope- a motion picture viewing device Cinematography- the art of making motion pictures by manipulating the technology and process to achieve desired effects Film editing- when the best shots are taken from raw footage and reassembled into a meaningful sequence Narrative editing- multiple cameras used Montage- an editing technique that combines a number of brief shots to indicate the passage of time Edit droid- a computer device that could easily rearrange film footage, instead of cutting and splicing Armature- a skeleton of harder material, to hold up the soft material Assembling(assemblage)- a process by which individual pieces or segments or objects are brought together to form a sculpture Site specific art- work that is produced in or for one location and not to be relocated Installation(environments)- an art medium in which the artist arranges or art works in a room, using the entire space as the medium to be manipulated
