My’esha JohnsonWheeler  Unit 5  Jessica Suchon  121415    Maya Angelou once said that “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story  inside of you”. I feel as the further we went on in the semester the more comfortable I felt with  writing papers that was up to 5 pages with not too many problems. With some of the topics that  we covered made it that much better because I became interested in it and was able to test my  writing skills with what I was writing and how I felt about it. Before wasn’t too much different  just the fact that I kind of enjoyed it and English was never my favorite class out of my schedule  until now. And now I looked forward to being in class because the papers weren’t too much to  handle yet they still challenged us. From then until now has helped me overlook what i’ve  already done and seek to do what I can.  In the very first essay I chose the topic of how I began to find myself and figure out who I  really was inside because it was different from any other topic I’ve wrote about and  wasn’t too  personal that I was afraid of other people seeing it. It was easy to write because all I had to was  remember and explain it in a visual way for people to see while they read. I felt weird telling my  whole life to a reader I don’t know but felt good because I felt like I showed the reader that most  things some girls went through doesn’t matter in the end. I was satisfied with my rough and final  draft but is always room for more improvement. From the comments I have read I could’ve did  that much more of a better job from what I’ve already done myself.   I chose an ad from Victoria Secret by thinking about the brands that I associate myself  with the most and see a lot of. Also the specific ad poster I did see for the brand, I thought was  very unique. It was kind of difficult in a way to write the paper all the way considering my grade  could have been better but the process through it I didn’t think was too hard. I felt pretty  confident that I knew what I was talking about and made in a way the reader could understand it  too. My rough draft end up being a great start and I also take the teacher comments into  consideration because they always help and point out things I don’t realize. For my final draft I  tried to add more detail but my final grade was not the best because of the topic began to talk  about the brand itself instead of the ad at hand.  I chose the article “Lies Hollywood Told Us: Love and Romance Edition” to elaborate on  because I love to watch romance movies and when I saw the title it made me wonder what they  really “lied” about. The article was fairly easy and enjoyable to write because I could relate to it  and put my own thoughts and other people’s together. It felt really good writing because I  thought it was very interesting and true so it made me want to put the paper in a way other  people could see/think what I did. I felt really good about the rough and final draft grade but  know that I could get a higher grade once I look over the comments and revise appropriately but  was satisfied with what I received.  On the very last unit I chose to research about the death of King Tutankhamun because  that’s something you don’t hear someone say “Hey I want to write about this person” because  majority tends to think of the simpler things they already are familiar with. But decided to step  out of my comfort zone and learn something new myself. The research is kind of a struggle  because there are a lot of subtopics that help you get sidetracked on what doesn’t matter the  most. It feel nice writing and doing the research because i’m not getting bored through the  process because there is so much stuff that I never knew. I feel good about the upcoming grade  for my rough/final draft because after talking to the teacher I was able to narrow it down and  make it better.  My overall experience with each essay has gotten me closer to being successful as a  writer. When we began to write about how we were before and how we changed, I feel gave us a  chance to break out a little bit to get comfortable and show who we really are and that was super  cool. Then leading into picking an advertisement to describe and explain what message it gives  and what it’s trying to do challenged me by changing the whole view on how to write a paper  because the two were nothing alike. But once explaining our views on an article to our choosing  out of the book gave me a little leeway because I got to choose was interested me which made  the paper a little more easier to work through, plus we got to give opinions and that always helps.  Lastly we’re writing about a research topic to our choosing and that takes me to another level on  how to write a paper because another way of writing this paper and helps me figure out what’s a  good source and what isn’t. And to think that I would be somewhere wrapped up under a blanket  trying to contemplate on life with as many essays i’ve wrote.
