Introduction: One thing we all have in common in this room is, college has  affected us in some way. It may have made us more opened minded to  new experiences, maybe made us harder workers, maybe assisted us to  learn more about a subject, or may have just caused us to have financial  stress. My goal here today is to not only convince you that attending a  community college should be free, but to also give you a course of action  to help make this possible. As we all know community college offers the  same classes you would find at a university or a private college for a much  more reasonable price. In fact if we compare Clemson’s tuition to Tri County Technical College tuition, there is over nine thousanddollar  differences. I also know that it’s a expensive thing for the American  government to fund. But, still students are struggling to pay for tuition at  community colleges and it’s forcing some prospective students to opt out of higher education, out of fear of debt. II. I. Fear of debt A. According to inside higher education any student who exceeds 20  hours of working, it starts to affect student grades. When a person is scared of amassing debt that student will be more focused on  trying to stay debt free then focusing on building a future. B. Time magazine top five stresses the average college student has  is the need to repay loans, cost of education, borrowing money for college, necessity of find a job after college, and of course the  school work. C. Nancy Molitor a clinical psychologist and public education  coordinator with the APA, says that financial stress is one of the  most difficult types of stress. D. Financial stress can cause a person to start binge eating or even  drinking excessively. It can not only affect a person’s behavior but  also increase the risk of developing ulcers, migraines, heart attack and sleep disturbances. II. Cost the government has to spend on tuition A. According to usnews be 10 billion dollars would be spent on paying community college’s tuition over the course of ten  years. B. According to Commercial Observer the government spent a  total of $146 million to upgrade federal employees to  business class. C. The national institution of health according to foxnews spent 1.5 to study obese lesbians. D. 2012 our beloved government spent 25 million dollars on  teaching Moracans how to design and make pottery. E. We have money to help develop our youth to become  assets in society rather then liabilities. III. Conclusion:   So what can we do I started on petition on  on making community college tuition free. I would like all of you tonight to  go on the website and sign that petition. I am reminded of what Johnson  Dickinson a founding father once said “United we stand, divided we fall”. If  we think about if we don’t help our fellow Americans stand on their own  feet, when they are calling out for support as the quote I just mentioned  said we will fall. If we develop our youth and give them the right education  we can create a stronger generation who will create more jobs, and will  keep this country the powerhouse it is right now. We stand together under  one flag and its time we lend a helping hand to our fellow Americans.  Thank you for your time.
