US Embargo on exports to Japan (July 1941) US stopped exports to Japan of steel rubber and oil. This was a bog deal because the US was Japans biggest supplier of those things plus without these supplies, Japan could not keep on producing war items Attack on Pearl Harbor Japan says that what ever the US does to them they will strike back with just as much force and that is why they attacked Pearl Harbor US military had no prior knowledge of Japans plan to attack
