Women who kill the men who abuse them in my opinion are just defending themselves. So since its self-defense they would receive a light prison sentence or depending on the situation get no time. Except mandatory counseling for every woman who is charged to help them deal with what happened. Then with counseling it will help them confront their emotional distress then transition back into society or determine if they should be committed. To me it is considered justice the abused women are the victims not the dead pimp, boyfriend or husband. The women felt that their lives were in danger and had a right to be able to protect themselves and if it they ended up killing the attacker they should not be severely punished. Especially if the police or social services have documented evidence of the ongoing physical abuse and were unable to do anything to help the women or arrest the abuser. The law is seriously messed up right now if we allow men to physically harm women and do nothing about it but they can put the victims in prison for killing that abuser. Just for trying to stay alive and if they did not do it then they themselves would have died instead, the abuser would have continued to abuse or kill other women. Then for the people who do make the argument that “she should just leave him” how do you expect them to leave when their lives are being threated by a man who abuses them. Like we have discussed in class there are very little programs that help woman in this situation actually escape and stay safe. So when it comes down to it at the end the women are the actually victims and society needs to stop blaming them. I completely agree with you on the part where the women should be given help, but I suggested that it be mandatory for any woman in this circumstances to go to counseling. Then if the professional determines if they can rejoin society or be committed into an institute, because sometimes the woman can become mentally ill.
