SUPREMATISM, DADA, DE STIJL, SURREALISM, AMERICAN The discussion for our 13 week begins on Monday. The five styles/periods we are covering this week are Suprematism, Dada, de Stijl, Surrealism (Monday/Tuesday) and American (Wednesday/Thursday). It is everyone’s job on the discussion board to figure out how to identify/distinguish these two styles for Friday’s quiz. The terms for the week are: Monday/Tuesday: Readymade- an object from ppular or material culture presented without further manipulation by the artist (pg. 523) Automatic writing or automatism- artist abandon the usual intellectual control over their brush or pencil Biomorphic- forms that resemble shapes in nature (pg. 537) Primary colors- blue, red, & yellow. The 3 colors that all the others derive from (pg. 529) Non-local color Monochromatic Installation art- art made for a specific site or arrangement to to create a total environment (pg. 528) Wednesday/Thursday: Hudson River School- Thomas Cole created this school (pg. 471) Harlem Renaissance- (pg. 541) Stieglitz circle- (pg. 525)
