As part of the Campus Kitchen Executive Leadership Team as Fundraising Manger, Shift Leader and a Public Health Studies major with a concentration in Community Health and minor in Child Development attending Campus Kitchen Boot Camp would be extremely beneficial. Being Fundraising Manager and going to Campus Kitchen’s Boot Camp I want to learn how to recruit more volunteers and leaders effectively so we could possibly gain more community partners. As I sophomore last school year I would have not known about Campus Kitchen if I did not search OrgSync for organizations to join related to my major. What I am saying is, we are not a well-known organization on campus and I would like to change that! As Fundraising Manager my job is to raise awareness and money through events such as our annual Homecoming Food Drive, Turkey Palooza, and Raise The Dough. I can not do that effectively if our large student population is not even aware that we exist and what is our mission. Attending Campus Kitchen Boot Camp will allow me to communicate with other students from different schools to gain information about recruitment, fundraising, and campus awareness and involvement. As a Public Health major I always read about hunger and malnutrition but never seemed to put it in my own community. Joining Campus Kitchen has really opened my eyes to the silent epidemic in our community. Public Health is all about preventing disease and promoting health in individuals, groups, communities, and countries. Hunger is actually the most significant public health problem we are facing today. As Fundraising Manager I have so many ideas with not many committed volunteers. Going to Boot Camp would benefit me by attending the training sessions provided such as grant writing and social media. These sessions will allow me to fulfill my ideas such as collaborating with the College of Health and Human Performance to create a Wellness Passport Event to expose our organization to a large number of individuals at one time during Homecoming and have them bring canned food in exchange for a stamp in workbook. My goal in attending Campus Kitchen Boot Camp is to have the experience of being in DC Central Kitchen, learning how to advocate, leadership transition, recruitment, fundraising, and networking.
