TO: Mark Courtright FM: Collin Shea RE: CH 6: Designing Documents DT: February 26th, 2016 This summarizes the Important Findings and Key Learnings from Chapter 6: Designing Documents CHAPTER SUMMARY This chapter focuses upon Design and the ways in which it can be used to enhance your documents. Design is important because, when implemented properly, it can tailor any document for the minds of a respective audience. This aspect allows for maximum efficiency when it comes to readability, cost, time, and the avoidance of legal problems. IMPORTANT FINDINGS ● Analyze persuasive situations from all perspectives Social convention vary based upon environment; however, information regarding  each society’s mannerisms can be found everywhere. It is important to  understand the conventions of the environment in which you are operating, so  that you can develop an effective design that isn’t offensive or confusing.  ● Different mediums for which your design is to be conveyed Brochures, infographics, and web pages are three of the primary mediums used  in document design. Each medium incorporates both visual and textual  references to make their argument, and can be used for a variety of different  audiences.  ● Testing design for usability Usability tests are a way of assessing documents with real audiences before they are officially submitted. The feedback allows for many improvements to be made  so that the design can be as effective as possible for its audience.    KEY LEARNINGS ● Software programs can help greatly in the process of document design ● Follow guidelines for document design ● Exists different levels of design ● Conventions change over time ▯   ▯   ▯
