ED­ESP 250  Lecture Notes 8/22/1016 Hi everyone. So this year, I am an elite note taker. This set of notes is lacking some and I apologize for  Today  Objectives (objectives will be marked by various colors)  Begin or continue to develop a view of special education   Learn basic facts about special ed   Learn about your instructor (no notes taken or needed)  Understand the syllabus and course work (may input highlights later, no active notes)   Understand what is expected for the next class Think­Pair­Share What do you think of when you think about special Edu?   My uncle, my cousin, passionate people, helping those that no one else  wants to help, never giving up Exceptionality Study of Exceptional Learners is the study of both the differences and  similarities  For the purpose of special ed, exceptional learners are those who….  a. Have a disability b. Require special ed and extra serviced to reach their full potential  c. Gifted and Talented, but they are not in special ed Special Edu  Special learning disabilities, speech, language impairments, mild  intellect disabilities, and emotional disturbance (Majority of students  served)  Number of students with disabilities in the gen ed classroom have  increased  A special educator  What do special ed teachers do? Teacher, expert, supervisor, advocate, case manager   Where do they work?  Schools, hospitals, etc.  Class Expectations  BE AN ACTIVE LEARNER! For Next Class Finish Reading Revel Chapt 1 that but I think it pretty much sums over what happened in class yesterday. Hopefully, I will post a set of  notes or special highlights for each lecture. They will all be in the same set up; sometimes they will be a  pdf file of notes out of my notebook. My notebook notes will most likely have more charts, mind maps,  and photos. I will also include helpful tools that I have created to help me understand and remember some of the material throughout the semester. Anyway, good luck!  1
