Stephanie Smithson Prof. Kiel 2221 8/25/2016 Java Overview Developed by Sun Microsystems in 1990s → now part of Oracle Compiler Checks the source code of a program for errors before running “Compiletime errors” If there are no errors, it generates bytecode that is executable in a “.class” file Execution JVM: Java Virtual Machine A virtual compiler that runs on hardware and OS Loaded by the computer, loads the “.class” file and then interprets the bytecode before running it one line at a time Part of JRE: Java Runtime Environment Significance of JVM Portable: SO many libraries that are accessible and usable Universal: Used for many platforms and situations Performs well across the board, many characteristics and uses SIMPLE JAVA PROGRAM This program will print “Hello World” to the console In this course we will be using the objects SimpleWriter and SimpleReader import components.simplewriter.SimpleWriter; import components.simplewriter.SimpleWriter1L; OR, import components.simplewriter.*; The * will import all of the libraries USING SIMPLEWRITER SimpleWriter can be written out to the console or to a file depending on what is put into the parameters Always close the streams so there won’t be errors
