Intro Biology 1021 Notes:  Chapter 1 ­ What is Biology? Study of life  Grow, consume/ energy  Pass on to offspring ­ reproductive Scientific Method  ­ Knowledge is based on evidence. Resveratrol­ red grapes/ plants ● Anti ­oxidant  ­ 27 healthy, inactive men ~ 65 years old ­ 8 weeks , high intensity exercise daily  ­ ½ received 250 mg resveratrol ­ ½ “ placebo ( no resveratrol ) Scientific method begins with observation.  ­ May take advantages of knowledge and experiences of other scientists Scientist uses inductive reasoning ­ uses creative thinking to combine isolated facts into a  cohesive whole.  ­ Hypothesis­ possible explanation for an event, ( consider only those that can be  tested ) Follow diagram for the scientific method  ↓ Experiments further observation and test hypothesis. Good experimental design, all conditions  constant except experimental variable. ● Test group versus control group  ● Does not necessarily mean causation
