Notes from ear training and  sight singing; music 1A Week 1 Day 1 (Monday 8/22) IN CLASS Activity today Draw treble clef and bass clef Lines and spaces on g, f, and moveable c clefs Major Key signature rules (in exact wording ���) 1. 0 flats or sharps is the key of C major 2. 1b = (is the key of) F Major 3. b's = 2nd to last b = name of key in Major ,"when dealing with flats, find the second to last flat  and that is the name of the major key signature 4. When dealing with #'s, find the last #, go up one line or space and that is the name of the  major key signature Order of b's is beadgcf  Order of #'s is fcgdaeb Major keys: ­ C Major= 0 b's or #'s ­ F Major= 1b ­ Bb Major = 2b ­ Eb Major = 3b ­ Ab Major = 4b ­ Db Major = 5b ­ Gb Major = 6b ­ Cb Major = 7b ­ G Major = 1# ­ D Major = 2# ­ A Major = 3# ­ E Major = 4# ­ B Major = 5# ­ F# Major = 6# ­ C# Major = 7# * every key letter adds up to 7 accidentals (I.e. C and C# is 0+7#'s = 7; Eb and E is 3b's + 4#'s= 7 accidentals etc.) Day 2 ( Wednesday 8/24) Rules to ID intervals  •   General interval: quantity (I.e a fifth, a third, etc) •   Specific interval: quality. ­     1,4,5,8 are they only perfects ­     2,3,6,7 are minor or major *    All intervals can be diminished and augmented • When the upper note is in the major key of the lower note, BUT the lower note is not in the  major key of the upper note the interval is "major" • When the upper note is not in the major key of the lower note, BUT the lower note is in the  major key of the upper note, the interval is "minor" • When the upper note is in the major key of the lower note and the lower note is in the major  key of the upper note the interval is "perfect" • Diminished ­ 1/2 step SMALLER than a minor or perfect interval •  Augmented­ 1/2 step LARGER than a major or perfect interval            *Take off one accidental from a potential Aug. or dim. Interval and discover if it is  major/minor/perfect then add the accidental back in and decide if the interval is larger/smaller ­  Make flash cards of these rules
