Week 1 CHEM 1500 8/23 & 8/25 This week was mainly a “Show What You Know Week”. Tuesday was an introduction. We had to watch a video for Thursday and we took a skills exam. The video was a short piece about PEMDAS. Dr. Beck explained the meaning and what you can do with it. You probably learned certain sayings for this and that’s great. Do what you can to memorize this process, we will be using it all semester to solve problems in this class. P Parentheses E Exponents M Multiplication D Division A Addition S Subtraction If you didn’t know this (I didn’t), multiplication and division, as well as, addition and subtraction can be reversed in order (the pairs MD, AS). Remember, parentheses and exponents always come before the rest and multiplication and division always come before addition and subtraction.
