Antinique Spencer  06/14/16 ECE 221: Early Childhood Internship Personal Journal #1 Competency: Communicate positively and effectively with diverse families in assigned field experience. Specific examples of ways that I demonstrate the competency:  Using the white board inside and outside the classroom to convey important  messages about the day and items the children may need etc.  Developing monthly newsletters in various languages to help different families  understand important things that are going on in the classroom. Also, having a  section in this newsletter about fun things that children may have said that month.  Having various labels and pictures of different cultures and families.   Having families come in and help with a culture lesson that the family feels  comfortable teaching to the class. I would still want to know various creative ways to communicate with families and children  from different lifestyles. I feel in some situations it is very uncomfortable to ask different culture  families to be involved in the classroom. A specific way that I will accomplish this is reaching  out to other teachers to see if they have encounters the same thing. Look up various things online to see what ideas are effective and helpful to teachers. The goal in mind s to support and  effectively communicate with parents of different cultures.
