An energy project that UTEP worked in was saving and conserving energy. The way that goal was accomplished  was by discussing alternative sources of energy and concluding that going Solar was a good option. After being  accepted for a $1 million grant by the DRETP, UTEP paired up with Sun Power and El Paso's Border Solar to  install a 185 kW system, rooftop system on the Student Recreation Center and a solar carport for the Facilities  Services Building. UTEP is now saving $32,000 per year. Although this project is efficient and successful, other  proposals such as designs for the placement of photovoltaic panels on the Sun Bowl Parking Garage,  thermalphotovoltaic panels at the Swimming and Fitness Center, and wind turbines atop the new Chemistry and  Computer Science Building are still unfunded. These are some projects that require the attention of UTEP  students. 2) Describe one project related to water. The water conservation department has been working on the Xeriscape Plan, where they turn land and  traditionally landscaped gardens to conserve water. This is done by selecting plants with high water efficiency and resilience to out climate. So far UTEP has converted from 22,000 square feet to 49,000 square feet around and on  campus. Another goal (or project) is to upgrade the plumbing system to reduce water consumption and controlling sewer smells.  From the lecture slides: 3) What is the goal of the Green Fund? To increase the sustainability of UTEP and raising $40000 per year for projects 4) What is the difference between categorical and numerical data? Categorical data is statistical and consists of categorical variables or of data that has been converted into that  form, numerical data consists of values or observations that can be measured. 5) Assume that you are interested in recycling at UTEP.  Give an example of categorical  data and an example of numerical data that you could collect. Categorical Data­ Types of materials being recycled, like plastic, paper, glass, aluminum. Location of  companies that accept these recycled materials, types of recycled material that are accepted and not  accepted.  Numerical Data­ The average amount of each material thrown away each week, number of people (or  employees) who will take the recycled material, average price of how much money is saved b recycling.
