Logic the craft of careful reasoning. It studies reasons and connections among reasons. Argument structured way of offering reasons in support of claims. Part of argument that is being supported is called the conclusion. Premise Reasons or statements that are offered to support another reason called a conclusion. Validity one good making feature to what it means to make an argument valid. Argument Example: If the argument and premise is not true or valid, then it is not sound. 1. [premise] All human beings are mortal. TRUE 2. [premise] Socrates is a human being. TRUE 3. [conclusion] Therefore, Socrates is mortal. VALID Bertrand Russell Excellent mathematician, magician, and a philosopher. ● For something to be useful it has to satisfy material needs. ● Philosophy is not a luxury it is a vital good. It is important to think carefully. (Knowledge, Critical thinking) ● Philosophy, like other studies aims primarily at knowledge from critical examination of prejudices and beliefs. ● Notion of self where all acquisition of knowledge is an enlargement of the self. ● Asking of a question is a valuable process to thinking critically.
