Intermediate Spanish 1  8/29  Subjunctive  You use subjunctive with verbs of emotion. These verbs are…    Molestar  Gustar  Siento  Temo que  Sorprender  Aburrir  Encantar  Faltar  Importar  Interesar  Caer bien  Agradar  Disgustar  Doler  Enojar  Fascinar  Preocupar  Parecer  Alegrarse    Reflexives  For verbs like gustar...  Me Nos  Te Os  Le Les     Me Nos  Te Os  Se Se  Ex) Nos alegramos de que te gusten perros.    8/31  Subjunctive Doubt or Certainty  Subjunctive is used with doubt, disbelief, and denial.  ex) Ellos dudan que su hijo les diga la verdad.  1) S1 V1 ( verb of doubt) +que + S2 V2  2) Impersonal expressions + que + S2 V2  Verbs of doubt include…  Dudar  Negar  No creer  No estar seguro  No es cierto  No es seguro  No es verdad  Es imposible  Es improbable  No es posible  No es probable  Certainty uses the indicative.  Like in math, a double negative equals a positive or in this case the indicative.  Ex) Dudo que ella coma en ese restaurante.  I doubt that she eats in that restaurant  Ex) Ellos no creen que el toque el piano.  They do not believe that he plays the piano.    9/2  Using Subjunctive  1) Indicates condition or proposition  A menos que  Antes de que  Con tal de  En caso de  Para  Sin que  ­infinitive is used after antes de, para, con tal de, and sin where there is only one  subject.  2) Indicates time or mode  Cuando  Despues  En cuanto/tan pronto/ asi que/ luego que  Hasta que  Mientras que  De manera que  Siempre que  ­Indicative is used for something being done many times or when using the past tense  ­Subjunctive is used with commands or when using the future tense  Ex) Lucas debe terminar antes de que se jefe l​ legue. ​   Ex) Siempre visito a mi abuela cuando ​voy​ de vacaciones.  Ex) Finish your homework before your father returns…  Terminas tu tarea antes de que tu padre vuelva a casa.  Ex) He did it without anyone noticing…  Lo hizo sin que nadie lo notara.
